American Airlines Showcases AMC Teams

American Airlines will be showcasing its 2023 Aerospace Maintenance Competition teams in videos on its inflight entertainment across its entire fleet starting Oct. 1. Passengers will be able to watch the videos on seatback screens or personal devices.

AJW Technique Adds New ADIRU Testing Capability

AJW Technique has purchased an ATEC Series 6 test station and tumble table, enabling it to add testing capabilities for Honeywell’s Airbus A320 air data inertial reference units (ADIRU).

TEI Wins F110 MRO Service Agreement Extension

GE Aerospace has extended TUSAS Engine Industries’ (TEI) license to conduct F110 depot level maintenance services for several countries that operate F-16 and F-15 fighter aircraft. GE says the agreement will allow international F110 operators to have enhanced support and services. TEI is a joint venture between GE, Turkish Aerospace Industries, the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation and the Turkish Aeronautical Association.

SIAEC Completes Delta A350 Cabin Mods

SIA Engineering Company (SIAEC) announced that it has completed the ninth and final Airbus A350 cabin modification for Delta Air Lines. SIAEC’s base maintenance division has been working on the project since February 2022.

TAT Technologies Wins Boeing 747 Component Repair Contract

TAT Technologies has signed a new contract to repair Boeing 747 thermal components being used by a fleet of a major European cargo carrier. It says it won the $7.5 million contract due to its unique capabilities to service the component under FAA and European Union Aviation Safety Agency certification.

Allegiant Mechanics Get New Ratified Contract

Allegiant has ratified a new contract agreement with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, which represents the airline’s maintenance technicians, stores employees and administrative maintenance staff. The new agreement includes what it says are significant increases in rates and a two-year extension to the amenable date of the current bargaining agreement, Oct. 31, 2028.

FL Technics Indonesia Plans Bali MRO Facility

FL Technics Indonesia has begun development of an MRO hub at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali. The $25 million facility, which will feature a six-bay hangar for narrowbody maintenance as well as production shops and offices, is expected to be completed in a year.

New PAG President Of MRO Services

Precision Aviation Group has appointed Jon Clarke as president of MRO services, where he will manage the company’s global repair station operations. Clarke was most recently vice president and general manager of Professional Aircraft Accessories, and he spent more than 30 years in various roles at Delta Tech Ops.

Aftermarket distributor and MRO provider VSE Aviation has selected AvAir to manage a large Airbus and Boeing component exchange pool. Through the partnership, AvAir will add thousands of rotables to its Dublin and Chandler, Arizona facilities.

TGIS Aviation Selects Rusada Envision Software

UK-based engine and aircraft consultancy TGIS Aviation has chosen Rusada’s Envision software to support its new line of continuing airworthiness management organization services. It will use Envision’s Fleet Management module, which enables customers to maintain the continuing airworthiness of aircraft through a web-based platform.

AJW, Airblue Renew PBH Agreement

AJW Group has renewed its power-by-the-hour (PBH) agreement with Pakistan-based airline Airblue. The carrier has been a customer of AJW’s since 2005 and with the signing of the new contract, UK-headquartered AJW will continue overseeing support for Airblue’s fleet of 10 Airbus A320 family aircraft and its future order of A320neo narrowbodies.

New Joramco COO

Joramco has appointed Thomas Bjorndal as its new chief commercial officer, where he will lead growth of its commercial department. Bjorndal was most recently head of base maintenance services management at Swiss International Air Lines and has previously served as manager of line maintenance at Qatar Airways.

ATSG Has Record P2F Month

Air Transport Services Group (ATSG) announced that its subsidiary Cargo Aircraft Management has delivered a record six converted freighters under lease in the past month. In ATSG’s recent second quarter results, president and CEO Rich Corrado said the company expects to fulfill its plan to lease 19 newly converted freighters this year.

Avcon Industries Expands To Kansas

Butler National Corporation subsidiary Avcon Industries—which specializes in custom aircraft modifications related to special missions, systems integration and avionics—has expanded to New Century Airport near Kansas City, Kansas. It says the move will help it meet growing needs for skilled workforce and hangar space.

Eve, DHL To Study AAM Logistics

Eve Air Mobility has signed a memorandum of understanding with DHL Supply Chain to study key demands and supply chain characteristics for its advanced air mobility operations. The study will include distribution of parts and materials required for repairs and maintenance, as well as battery logistics and vertiport supplies.

Embraer Names New Services VP

Embraer has announced Carlos Naufel as its new vice president of services and support, effective Sep. 1, 2023. Naufel is currently technical director of Brazilian airline Azul Linhas Aéreas. He will replace Johann Bordais, who last month was named as CEO of Eve Air Mobility.

SIAEC Acquires Stake In Pos Aviation Engineering Services

SIA Engineering Company Limited (SIAEC) has acquired 49% of the share capital of Pos Aviation Engineering Services (PAES), an independent aircraft maintenance and engineering company based in Malaysia. PAES parent company Pos Aviation holds the remaining 51% of its share capital.

American Airlines Battles Record Heat

American Airlines CEO Robert Isom said during a second quarter earnings call that record-breaking heat has required “a heck of a lot more work” being put into factors such as preventative maintenance for APUs, cooling readiness on jet bridges and aircraft, and protecting team members out on the ramp.

JAT Tehnika Completes First 767-300 P2F Conversion

JAT Tehnika says it has completed the first passenger-to-cargo conversion of a Boeing 767-300 in Europe at its facility in Belgrade. The conversion was part of its cooperation with Israel Aerospace Industries to begin performing 767-200 and -300 conversions.

AIESL Plans Ramco Software Rollout

Air India Engineering Services Limited (AIESL) plans to implement Ramco Systems’ Aviation Suite V5.9 software, which will provide capabilities to digitally manage third party MRO services such as maintenance, engineering, CAMO services, supply chain management and digital task cards.

Saudi low-cost carrier flynas has rolled out Swiss-AS AMOS software to manage airworthiness and maintenance data. During the 14-month implementation period, flynas also received support from CrossConsense and Amazon Web Services.

Aeroplex, Wizz Air Extend Line Maintenance Agreement

Hungarian maintenance specialist Aeroplex has extended its line maintenance agreement with Wizz Air to continue provide line maintenance services in Budapest and Debrecen for another two years. Aeroplex will also provide parts logistics support for the carrier’s entire fleet until 2026.

Heico Completes Wencor Acquisition

Heico has completed its acquisition of Wencor Group for $1.9 billion in cash and $150 million in Heico Class A Common Stock. Wencor is now part of Heico’s Flight Support Group.

LHT Boosts USM, Engine Capabilities

Lufthansa Technik reported that it has more than doubled its procurement of used serviceable materials since pre-COVID as part of efforts to safeguard future business. It has also added capability to process Leap-1B engines at its Hamburg site.

Aftermarket Services Drive Rolls-Royce Profits

Rolls-Royce reported that its services revenue was up 30% due to increased large engine shop visits and higher time and materials revenues. It says operating profit increased 12.4% compared to the prior period due to higher aftermarket activity.

EirTrade Aviation has purchased tooling to begin offering CFM56-3 engine teardown capabilities at its new facility in Dublin. It expects demand for disassembly of the engine type to grow in the coming years as Boeing 737 Classic freighters are retired and replaced with 737NG BCFs.

Surcar Airlines Plans Hydrogen-Electric Retrofits

Newly-launched Canary Islands carrier Surcar Airlines has signed an agreement with ZeroAvia to retrofit Twin Otter seaplanes with the hydrogen-electric propulsion specialist’s ZA600 powertrain for sightseeing tours.

AELS Acquires Boeing 737-800 For Teardown

Aircraft End-of-Life Solutions (AELS) has acquired a Boeing 737-800 aircraft for teardown. AELS will disassemble the aircraft at its facility at Twente Airport in Enschede, Netherlands. Disassembled parts including landing gear, auxiliary power unit, wheels and brakes will be added to the company’s inventory.

LHT, Kenya Airways Sign Component MRO Agreement

Lufthansa Technik (LHT) has signed an agreement with Kenya Airways to provide total component support for the carrier’s nine Boeing 787-8 aircraft until 2028. The agreement consists of LHT supplying maintenance services and components, as well as aircraft on ground support, parts pooling and logistics services.

LATAM Airlines Brasil To hire 300 Mechanics

LATAM Airlines Brasil is set to hire 300 mechanics by the end of this year, in anticipation of an expected growth in operations. The carrier is seeking line maintenance staff to work at 25 airports in Brazil and its Sao Paulo MRO facility. It says that more than 90 positions will be available at Sao Paulo Guarulhos International Airport.

Collins Opens Expanded Additive Center In Iowa

Collins Aerospace has opened a new $14 million expansion to its additive manufacturing center in West Des Moines, Iowa. The facility will be used for additive production of engine components for commercial and military aircraft. Collins says the facility is one of only eight in the U.S. to receive the National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program certification for additive manufacturing.

Bangladeshi Carrier Signs ATR MRO Agreement

US-Bangla Airlines has signed a global maintenance agreement with turboprop manufacturer ATR. The agreement, according to ATR, will further optimize the airline’s maintenance costs and boost the reliability of its fleet of eight ATR 72-600 aircraft. The five-year pay-by-the hour contract covers repair, overhaul and pooling services related to line replaceable units, along with the availability and maintenance of propellers and leading edges.

The teardown is scheduled to begin this month and disassembled USM will be distributed through its airline operators and MRO customer base.

De Havilland Extends Component Agreements

De Havilland Canada has extended Component Solutions Program maintenance agreements with two European airlines. It has signed a five-year agreement extension with Luxair for its Dash 8-400 fleet and it has extended its agreement with Wideroe, which was originally scheduled to conclude in 2025, to 2027.

EFW, Tianjin Haite Cooperate On P2F Conversions

Elbe Flugzeugwerke (EFW) and Chinese MRO Tianjin Haite Aircraft Engineering Co. have signed an agreement to cooperate on Airbus A321 passenger-to-freighter conversions, with plans to induct the first aircraft in August.

AFI KLM E&M Becomes Volotea’s Biggest Maintenance Partner

AFI KLM E&M has signed a six-year maintenance agreement with Volotea, under which it will provide base maintenance services. The airline says the deal accounts for 65% of its base maintenance need, making AFI KLM E&M its largest maintenance partner.

Envoy Signs Collins FlightSense MRO Agreement

Sabena Technics To Provide Virgin Base Maintenance

Sabena Technics has signed an agreement with Virgin Atlantic to provide aircraft base maintenance services for the airline’s Airbus A330-900 aircraft from its Bordeaux, France facility. Farsound Renews Iberia Contract

Aviation supply chain specialist Farsound has renewed its contract with Iberia following the opening of its new facility in Spain. It will provide kitting solutions to Iberia’s assembly lines, and it says the airline will benefit from new innovations at the facility, such as a custom multi-capacity kitting cabinet designed to transport parts around the facility.

AFI KLM E&M Signs CF6-80C2 Contract

AFI KLM E&M has signed a contract to provide performance restoration shop visits to Chinese carrier SF Airlines for seven CF6-80C2 engines. The contract builds on its existing 15-year partnership with the airline, through which it has already performed heavy shop visits for 22 of SF Airlines’ engines.

Jet2 Opts For Honeywell APU Services

UK leisure carrier Jet2.com has selected Honeywell to provide aftermarket support for auxiliary power units on 34 of its Boeing 737-800NGs. Honeywell will perform maintenance from its facility in Raunheim, Germany. Under the agreement, Jet2 will also use Honeywell’s Predictive Trend Monitoring and Diagnostics application.

Embraer Lands Pool Program Agreements

Embraer has signed a long-term Pool Program services agreement with Indian regional airline Star Air, providing access to component exchanges and repair services for components on its E175 fleet. Embraer also signed a multi-year Pool Program contract extension with French airline Amelia for its fleet of 13 ERJ aircraft.

CMA CGM Air Cargo has selected AFI KLM E&M to provide engine and component support for two Boeing 777 freighters recently added to its fleet. It has also selected AFI KLM E&M to maintain components on its Airbus A330 freighter fleet.

Honeywell Unveils New APU Upgrade

Honeywell is offering a new High-Efficiency Mode upgrade for its 131-9B auxiliary power unit for Boeing 737 aircraft. It says the upgrade is expected to provide fuel savings, reduce emissions, increase time on-wing and lower fuel and maintenance costs.

StarFlyer Picks LHT For Engine Support

Lufthansa Technik (LHT) has signed a long-term support agreement with Japanese carrier StarFlyer for MRO services on CFM56-5B and Leap-1A engines powering its Airbus A320ceo and A320neo fleets. Services will include inspections, AOG support, on-wing troubleshooting, and engine condition monitoring, parts repair and overhaul.

Allegiant Upgrades Skywise Support

Allegiant Air has signed on to Airbus’ upgraded S. Predictive Maintenance + product on its Skywise predictive maintenance platform. The product, which has been released as part of Airbus’ Digital Alliance, combines models from Airbus, Delta TechOps and GE Digital.

Croatia Airlines Signs Engine, Component Agreements

Croatia Airlines has signed EngineWise maintenance agreements with Pratt & Whitney for the GTF engines that will power its fleet of 15 Airbus A220-100 and A220-300 aircraft. The first aircraft will be delivered in the second quarter of 2024. It has also signed a De Havilland Component Solutions Program agreement, through which the OEM will manage component MRO services for its fleet of six Dash 8-400 aircraft.

Rolls-Royce Extends Trent 700 TotalCare Agreements

Rolls-Royce has signed TotalCare agreement extensions for Trent 700 engines powering Airbus A330-200 aircraft with Tunisair and Egyptair. Its TotalCare program is designed to transfer time on wing and maintenance cost risk back to Rolls-Royce.

AFI KLM E&M Wins First American A220 Contract

AFI KLM E&M has signed a contract to provide support for more than 200 components on JetBlue’s fleet of Airbus A220 aircraft. The contract includes repairs, provision of on-site stock and access to a pool of inventory. The deal is AFI KLM E&M’s first American A220 contract.

SR Technics To Provide Safran With Leap-1A Support

SR Technics has signed a five-year agreement with Safran Aircraft Engines to provide quick-turn maintenance offload support to Leap-1A engines. The first shop visit is scheduled in July.

AirBaltic Launches Revamped MRO Internship Program

AirBaltic has launched what it says is an improved version of its SkyTech internship program, through which students will gain hands-on experience working alongside its maintenance technicians. Students can choose between three program subdivisions: apprenticeship by school, to expand theoretical knowledge; apprenticeship in aircraft maintenance; and apprentice in maintenance support, within the airline’s engineering and planning or logistics divisions.

SkyWest Airlines has become the first North American operator to license GE Aerospace’s 360 Foam Wash system, which it will use to clean its CF34 engines. GE says the airline is its largest operator of CF34 engines. It also estimates the system could help SkyWest reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 13,900 metric tons per year.

ICAO Data Shows Growth In Female AMTs

The International Civil Aviation Organization has released global survey data that shows the percentage of female aircraft maintenance engineers and technicians grew from 2.7% in 2016 to 3% in 2021. Increases were seen in all regions except for the Middle East and Africa, with the highest increases in the Asia-Pacific and Latin American/Caribbean regions. The survey shows Asia-Pacific has the highest percentage of women in these roles, at 4.4%.

AMP Aero Services Acquires Major Parts Inventory

AMP Aero Services has acquired an inventory of more than 88,000 parts. It says the lots include aircraft engine material for CFM International CFM56 and CF6-80C2, and Pratt & Whitney PW4000 and V2500 engines, as well as Boeing and Airbus airframe parts. It says the inventory will be positioned in Miami and Arkansas and available for purchase in the next 30-45 days.

Delta TechOps announced it has signed nine component MRO contracts worth $225 million during the first quarter of 2023. Ryanair Building Eco-Friendly Hangar

Ryanair plans to construct a new four-bay hangar to expand its aircraft maintenance facility at Dublin Airport. It says the hangar will be "one of the most environmentally friendly hangars in the EU" and will create more than 200 new jobs for engineers and mechanics. Construction will begin in the fourth quarter of 2023, with expected operations beginning in the second quarter of 2025.

SR Technics, Safran Developing New Engine Test Cell In Zurich

SR Technics has begun construction work for reactivation of its second test cell at Zurich Airport in partnership with Safran Test Cells. Southwest Airlines has flown the first revenue flight featuring an aircraft with Aero Design Labs’ drag reduction kit installed. Nok Air Goes Live With Rusada’s Envision

Nok Air has successfully implemented Rusada’s maintenance management software Envision, which was delayed due to COVID-19 pandemic. The airline has selected five of the software’s modules, including fleet management, base & line maintenance and human resources.

J&C Grows Revenues, Expands Production Capacity

J&C Aero, a specialist in cabin transformation and CAMO, has reported a 285% increase in its annual revenues that reached €10 million ($10.6 million) in 2022. The company has also expanded its cabin interior production facilities to 22,000 sq.ft.

APOC Aviation Opens Eco-Friendly Warehouse

APOC Aviation has opened a new warehouse in the Netherlands that it says will enable future expansion ahead of plans to double stock hub capability and workforce over the next five years. The warehouse also features green technology, including solar panels, electric temperature control and high-spec insulation to reduce energy consumption.

Turkish Technic, Oman Air Sign Component Support Agreement

Turkish Technic has signed a comprehensive 10-year agreement with Oman Air to provide component pool, component maintenance and advance exchange services to the carrier’s fleet of Boeing 737NG and 737 MAX aircraft.

TAT Technologies Expands APU Contracts

TAT Technologies has signed a five-year contract extension with an undisclosed global carrier for auxiliary power unit (APU) MRO services. Under the deal it will support GTCP331 model APUs, building on contracts it signed with Honeywell in 2020 and 2021 to repair and overhaul APUs for key Airbus and Boeing platforms.

Wencor Acquires Aero-Glen International

Wencor Group has acquired Aero-Glen International, a Fort Worth, Texas-based stocking distributor that offers kitting solutions for the aerospace industry. Wencor says the acquisition enhances its aftermarket hardware offering and aligns with its product expansion strategy.

Azerbaijan Airlines Picks LHT For Component Support

Azerbaijan Airlines has signed a five-year, Total Component Support contract with Lufthansa Technik (LHT) for its Boeing 787 fleet. Under the agreement, which takes effect May 1, the airline will have access to LHT’s spare parts pool network, as well as AOG support and other component services.

Nile Air Enlists AFI KLM E&M For Component Support

AFI KLM E&M has signed a dedicated component support agreement with Nile Air for its fleet of six Airbus A320-200s. Under the deal, AFI KLM E&M will support an extensive range of components, including accessories and line replaceable units for CFM56-5B and IAE V2500 engines.

Willis Gets Base Maintenance Approval

Willis Lease Finance Corporation subsidiary Willis Aviation Services Limited has received UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) base maintenance approval for the Airbus A320 family, Boeing 737NG, ATR 42/72 and Embraer 135/145 aircraft. It says the new approvals complement its existing UK CAA and European Union Aviation Safety Agency line maintenance approvals.

MRO Boosts Triumph’s Q3 Results

Triumph Group reported that its sales for the third quarter of fiscal year 2023 were up 21% organically from the prior year period, which it attributes to increases in commercial MRO and narrowbody production, as well as recovering military rotorcraft volume.

Turkish Technic Wins Air Serbia Base Maintenance Contract

Air Serbia has signed an MRO agreement with Turkish Technic for base maintenance services on four Airbus A320 family aircraft and one A330. Turkish Technic has already begun maintenance on one A320ceo at its Istanbul Ataturk Airport facilities and it perform maintenance on the remaining aircraft in the upcoming months.

Aiir Innovations Gets Venture Capital Boost

Aiir Innovations, a Dutch startup using artificial intelligence technology to automate aircraft engine inspections, has raised €2.1 million (approximately $2.3 million) in venture capital investment. It says it will use the funding to grow its team and expand globally.

Lufthansa Cargo Takes Flight With AeroSHARK

The first Lufthansa Cargo Boeing 777F featuring AeroSHARK fuel-saving surface technology entered scheduled service on Feb. 3. According to Lufthansa Technik, which developed AeroSHARK with coatings specialist BASF, Lufthansa Cargo’s entire 777 freighter fleet will gradually receive modifications to incorporate the technology.

Ontic Signs Honeywell License Agreement

Ontic has signed a license agreement with Honeywell covering its vacuum generator and check valve waste management product line, which is used across Boeing 737, 747, 757, 767 and 777 platforms. Under the deal, Ontic will adopt all existing contracts for the products, including service center agreements, to ensure continued maintenance support and spares.

AllClear Repair Services Gets EASA Part 145 Certification

AllClear Repair Services, a subsidiary of AllClear Aerospace & Defense, has received EASA Part 145 approval. Based in Miramar, Florida, it specializes in repair and overhaul of pneumatic, hydraulic, fuel, landing gear, brakes and electro-mechanical systems for commercial and defense platforms. It says the new certification enables it to offer dual release certifications.

ATR has appointed Stefano Marazzani as its senior vice president of customer support and services. Marazzani has a background in aircraft maintenance, customer support and operations, most recently serving as CEO of SuperJet International.

New Iberia Maintenance Director

Iberia Maintenance announced plans to appoint Enrique Robledo as its new maintenance director, effective March 17. Robledo has held various maintenance roles at Iberia since 1999, most recently as deputy manager of the engine workshop. He will replace Andy Best, who will become maintenance director at British Airways.

Aftermarket distributor and MRO services provider VSE Corporation has acquired Precision Fuel Components, a provider of MRO services for engine accessory and fuel systems in the business and general aviation market. VSE says the acquisition expands its capabilities within business and general aviation and rotorcraft markets, complementing its existing service capabilities.

AES Opens Spain-Based Subsidiary

Aerospace Engineering Solutions has opened a new office in Malaga, Spain as part of international expansion efforts. The subsidiary will operate as AES Spain, offering 2A Design Organization Approval capability.

Aircraft Battery Training Opportunity For AMTs

Aviation batteries specialist True Blue Power has launched free online training courses on lithium-ion aircraft batteries for aviation maintenance technicians (AMT). It says AMTs that complete the courses can receive one credit hour toward FAA AMT and Inspection Authorization refresher certification.

Mammoth Freighters Milestone

Mammoth Freighters announced that it has inducted its Boeing 777-300ER conformity aircraft, which will be the first of six conversions going to launch customer AviaAM Leasing. It will now begin initial preparations for flight testing and conversion.

Lufthansa Technik has signed a three-year contract with Norwegian airline FLYR to provide base maintenance for the carrier’s fleet of Boeing 737 MAX8 and 737-800 aircraft. The company will provide services at its Lufthansa Technik Budapest facility.
